Carnaval was celebrated last week by many of the elementary schools in Madrid. (The roots of Carnival trace back to ancient times when people celebrated the rites of spring. Across Europe, including Spain and Portugal, people annually gave thanks by throwing parties, wearing masks and dancing in the streets).
