Today I stumbled upon this procession. Being Ash Wednesday, and the official end of the season of Carnaval, Spain celebrates what is called el Entierrio de la Sardina (the burial of the Sardine). The celebrations consist of parades that parody a funeral. That which is to be buried is “all the partying” that occurred during Carnaval and so begins the season of Lent. SO cool!

Everyone participating in the parade is dressed in black, as if attending a funeral. Most men were wearing sardine necklaces around their necks.
